Can this get any easier? Based on how the expert NFL analysts of Bleacher Report are faring this season, it can’t get much harder.
Deciding every game, Brad Gagnon, Gary Davenport and Brent Sobleski had yet another run in Week 12, dropping their joint record . Individually and as a team, here’s the damage through 12 months (last week’s documents in parentheses):
1. Gary Davenport: 92-78-6 (7-8)
2. Brent Sobleski: 81-89-6 (7-8)
3. Brad Gagnon: 78-92-6 (5-10)
Consensus choices: 83-87-6 (7-8)
Together with December loomingwe requested longtime sports gambling analyst Dave Tuley if there might be some light at the end of the tube to the gambling public or if the sportsbooks will continue to benefit from larger samples late in the summer season.
Tuley gave us some hope, but not enough to get removed.
“There was a period under a dozen years back where I had a lot of years in a row where I just killed it the second half of the year and in December,” he explained. “At the moment, I felt like it was just the time of year once the great teams were being overrated and the bad teams were being underrated, and with parity what it was, the underdogs were performing a whole lot better at that time.”
But Tuley notes that neither the books nor the bettors have encountered advantages lately Decembers. “As much as bettors wish to believe that we are becoming smarter the more people see these teams play,” he said,”clearly the oddsmakers are seeing the same things we are, and they’re adjusting and making it hard also.”
But he believes it is likely to pick out lines which have been exaggerated by midseason slumps. In particular, he pointed in the 7.5-point distribute in favor of the New Orleans Saints at a road matchup with the NFC East-leading Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night.
With that lineup, oddsmakers are indicating the Saints would be preferred by as many as 13 or 14 points if this game were at New Orleans, which will appear high considering that the Cowboys are riding a three-game winning series.
“That’s [a reflection of] how the Saints have been enjoying,” Tuley said. “For the novels to balance their action, they have to place it at the number.”
It’s something to keep in mind as we enter this 2018 season’s last month. It might not save your entire year but if you’ve been after us annually, any guidance helps.
Here’s what Sobleski, Gagnon and Davenport are considering heading to the initial 16-game slate in more than two months.
